Baldur’s Gate 3 released earlier this year on August 3 on PC, and its popularity has already made it the third-most played game on Steam. However, as players approached the third act, a number of problems started to crop up. Major bugs along with lagging issues were reported, including one that “blocked” Minthara’s content. Fans haven’t been appreciative of the ending for the character of Karlach that finally made it into the game, either. Larian’s latest announcement addresses these issues and informs how this feedback has been considered ahead of their big upcoming Patch 2.
Devs Larian Studios addresses reports of “cut content”
Karlach is a Tiefling Barbarian who you get to act as a companion to your party. She was sold to the archdevil Zariel as a child. Though she’s free now from the clutches of the archdevil, she has an “infernal engine” in her chest, that is burning her out along with it, but Karlach is determined to find a fix. However, according to players, her endgame isn’t as epic as her journey, and has been a massive letdown. Fans and dataminers looking for answers and solutions have dug up what they call “cut content” from the game’s files. Larian has addressed this “cut content” suggesting that they’ll also be expanding the endings with the upcoming Patch.
Baldur’s Gate 3’s latest announcement blog on Steam clarified what this cut content means from the standpoint of the developers. While “blockers” or bugs have resulted in cutting content like not triggering “companion reactions to events in the world”, Larian has also addressed reports around the epilogue having been cut short to fit the story. They say, “What’s been datamined is not really cut content but content that we didn’t want to release because we didn’t think it worked.” The developers were worried that the “ending cinematics were becoming too long and would detract from the epicness of the experience.”
Baldur’s Gate 3 epilogue will be expanded for Karlach
As a solution, Larian has informed that they have been expanding the epilogues since receiving the feedback, and the first of those will drop with Patch 2 coming very soon. For Karlach, they wrote that they are “adding better closure to the story’s final act in the form of a more fleshed-out ending for Karlach”. A new optional ending for her will soon be added to the game, which Larian describes as “fiery, poignant, and gives her the ending she deserves.”
Baldur’s Gate received its first big patch earlier on August 25, which brought about a thousand changes, including bug fixes. The upcoming one will also be a major, highly significant patch in the game, the release date of which has not yet been announced.
